This workshop is capped at 10 places.

Hosted at Collarts, this workshop aims to provide you with enough skill to turn your art into a book. Whether that be through self publishing, handmaking your own editions or approaching a publisher we will delve deeply into book making and publishing learning how to make a great book that will live up to your aims and hopes.

This workshop is all about asking YOU to consider what you want out of seeing your art, project, photos or ideas published and working from that intention. We will be peeling back the curtain a bit and looking at the nitty gritty, including book costs, mistakes and how distribution works.

Who is this workshop for: artists and makers from any background who would like to turn their work into a book. It's best to have some art work in progress, but it doesn't have to be finished. It'll suit people that want accurate, honest and clear information.

Split over two days, we will focus on the following topics:

  • An introduction to book making and publishing
  • Editing and sequencing for a book (where you'll have a chance to practice with your own art and receive feedback)
  • Design for non-designers
  • What printers, designers and publishers need from artists, what artists need from printers, designers and publishers
  • First books: successes and mistakes
  • Money: how much does a book cost, how much does a book make?
  • Book as platform: when publishing is done where to next?

Where: Collarts Cromwell Street - 67/69 Cromwell St, Collingwood VIC
